Professor Süleyman Tolun graduated from İstanbul Technical University, Mechanical Engineering Faculty’s, Aeronautical Engineering Department with a master’s degree in 1971. He was employed as an research assistant the same year. He did his PhD study at the same faculty in 1980 on Aircraft Structures. He had worked and had taken all his academic titles at the same department untill 1992. In 2007 he got a sabbatical leave to Kahramanmaras S. University. He then nominated as dean of the Engineering Faculty. He used another sabbatical leave to Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2011 and nominated again for four years as the dean of Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences. In 2014 he attended the University of Kyrenia as the founding dean of the faculty of aviation and space sciences. In 1975-76 term he had a temporary leave to visit Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. In 1990 he also had a temporary leave to Ecole Nationale Superieure de l’aeronautique et de l’Espace (ENSAE), Toulouse, France.

He thought many courses in ITU and Air Force School and in two other universities when serving as the dean of the faculties.
